Who doesn’t like a head full of thick hair shining in all their glory? It is quite customary for everyone to take their hair for granted until the day it is gone. The problem of hair loss is all the more troublesome for me. This is so because male pattern baldness can initiate at a very young age and cause men to lose their hair at a dramatic speed. This crushes their confidence and makes them end up as a recluse despite all the commotion going on the stage of this colourful world.
What is meant by a hair transplant?
Hair transplants have been around in the U.S. ever since the 1950s. This is surgery that involves the placement of a narrow strip of human hair follicles onto the part of the head that has suffered from tremendous amounts of hair loss. The viable hair follicles in the transplanted skin fragment have the capacity to generate healthy strands of hair which can help the patient defeat the misery caused by baldness. The strip of hair is taken from the patient’s own scalp so there is no question of any adverse reactions.
A majority of these procedures are performed under local anesthesia which means that they do not bring along any degree of pain with them.
What does a hair transplant involve?
The process of hair transplant is very simple. If you are considering this procedure, you will be astounded by the sheer shortness and simplicity of the the procedure and the success rate it has.
In order to give you a hair transplant, your surgeon will clean your scalp thoroughly and inject an anesthetic to numb your skin. A fragment of your skin which is 3 to 4 inches in length will be removed from the back of your head. The scar will be immediately stitched together by the surgeon. The extracted fragment of follicle bearing skin will be divided into 500 to 2000 smaller grafts before being grafted onto the part of your head which has lost its share of lustrous hair.
The procedure lasts for hardly four hours depending in the area that needs to be covered. The result? A head full of healthy hair which will make you the center of attention no matter where you go.
The brand new hair: Are they real?
Contrary to what many people think, the newly transplanted hair will feel nothing different from the hair on the rest of your head. You will notice that the color, texture and length amongst other characteristics are just the same like your non-transplant hair. You will not be able to tell the difference or mark a boundary between your ’new’ hair and the ‘old’ ones.
There is no need to take any precautionary measures to take care of your newly transplanted hair. If you require, your surgeon may be able to guide you with the best shampoo and conditioner that you may use to look after your hair but these procedures are not required to maintain the quality of the new hair.
